Pools share the points with Dagenham

Ten-man Pools suffered a late setback at Dagenham, but extended their unbeaten run to six games in the capital.

Anthony Limbrick named an unchanged side following last weekend’s dramatic win over Ebbsfleet United, though Jack Hunter was a late absentee from the bench after suffering with illness.

Pools had a golden chance to go ahead inside ten minutes after Joe Grey was tripped in the box, but Mani Dieseruvwe’s low penalty was saved by Jake Turner.

Minutes later Grey was denied from close range, but from the subsequent corner Pools took the lead as Paul Kalambayi turned Gary Madine’s header across goal into his own net.

Pools teenager Louis Stephenson was sent off midway through the first half after two yellow cards in quick succession, with the second seeming to be for dissent after an initial foul.

Dagenham – who are threatened with relegation – began to apply pressure with former Pools frontman Josh Umerah hitting the crossbar.

It was one-way traffic in the second half, but Pools were defending resolutely. They had to put their bodies on the line to deny shots from Jake Hessenthaler and Dion Pereira.

Pereira went close again with ten minutes to go, as his deflected effort struck the foot of Adam Smith’s right-hand post.

The Daggers pressure eventually paid off when the ball fell nicely for Harry Phipps, and his skewed effort found the bottom corner.

Pools left with a point to be proud of having spent 75 minutes with ten men.
