Weekly Roundup | Academy Angle

Our U19s recorded an historic win on the road while our SYT were held to a draw. Rounding off the week, our U16s suffered defeat.

Here’s everything you need to know…

U19s

Our U19s recorded an incredible 4-2 victory over Altrincham FC in the National League Alliance.

Alex Cross’s men were the better side in the opening stages and found their well-deserved goal just before the quarter when Jacob Penprase drilled a low ball across the box that met an arriving Joe Aungiers who tapped home.

Pools found their second midway into the second half, following a freekick that caused mayhem in the box, which eventually found its way to Tyrese Grundle who fired the ball underneath The Robin’s keeper into the bottom right corner.

Our U19s continued to press and found their third just three minutes later, when Zac Niven’s shot was deflected into the path of Jake Worth who finished into an empty net.

In the closing stages of the game, Worth found his second of the day and wrapped up a fantastic win for Pools, when Aungiers picked up on an error by The Robins keeper, before squaring the ball to Worth who slotted home into the bottom left corner.

Manager Alex Cross: “It was a long trip to Altrincham, but the players performed exceptionally well throughout.

“We were totally in control in the first half and scored a well worked goal with a great ball from Jacob who found Joe in the box.

“We didn’t start great in the second half and gifted them a goal, but we recovered well and blew Altrincham away, with Jake scoring twice and setting up Ty.

“Overall, a lot of positives to take from the game with another solid performance.”

U16s

A tough afternoon for our newly formed U16s saw them suffer a 7-1 defeat away at York City in the JPL National League Cup.

The loss means that Damian Shanahan’s side will fall into the Vase Cup qualification after finishing 5th in the group.

Ash Garland nabbed the constellation goal for Pools.

Manager Damian Shanahan: “We started off very positive and moved the ball around well, but our overconfidence was our downfall.

“Once they got a foothold in the game, they put us to the sword, you can tell they are a really organised side who have played together a few years.

“The lads are disappointed but one thing I know is that they will bounce back, we have some really good individuals and once we gel as a team, we will be a tough team to beat.”

 SYT

Our SYT were held to a 2-2 draw at home to Whitby Town in the National Football Youth League.

Goals from Tom Naisbett and Andrii Khrystenko secured a point for Pools.

The point saw our SYT move to 10th in the table with ten points from nine games.
