Smith joined Pools in August 2024 following a successful trial period in pre-season, which included a penalty save at South Shields.

The 31-year-old, who holds nearly 250 career appearances, played under Pools manager Darren Sarll at Yeovil Town where he reached the National League play-offs.

Smith won the play-offs in 2014 with Cambridge United during the early stages of his career, before playing every game for Northampton Town in 2016 as they gained promotion to League One.

The shot-stopper then enjoyed spells at Bristol Rovers, Forest Green Rovers, Stevenage and Morecambe before putting pen to paper at Victoria Park.
