Hartlepool United vice-captain Nathan Sheron spoke to the press as his side prepare to face Truro City in a nearly 900-mile round-trip on Saturday.
Last weekend, Pools suffered a narrow 1-0 defeat to play-off rivals FC Halifax Town at the Prestige Group Stadium, with Sheron hoping for more “consistency” in the final 10 league matches of the season.
Ahead of the clash against the Tinners, who currently sit at the bottom of the Enterprise National League, the vice-captain told local press: “We don’t want to just filter away. There are teams above us [in the play-offs] and it’s in their hands, but if we do our job, who knows.
“Another game comes quickly in this league, and it’s relentless, so [you have to] learn from the last game and try and be better the next game.
“It’s a long, long journey – I don’t think I’ve done a journey as far. It’s a new ground for pretty much all the lads.
“We’ll train as normal today and tomorrow, and just try to prepare as best as we can. Obviously, it’s miles away – but we’ve got a job to do.”
“[We were] disappointed after the weekend’s game, that could have been a real opportunity for us,” Sheron continued.
“Now we’re looking at the 10 games to go – let’s see if we can get a good run going, and see where we end up.
“We’ve had performances where we’ve been really good. It’s just about finding that consistency and getting to that level week in, week out.
“The fans have been great all season on the road, so we’re wishing them a safe journey, and hopefully we can reward them with three points.”
