Pools support Wealdstone in Her Game Too fixture

Hartlepool United were proud to support Wealdstone with their dedicated Her Game Too fixture at the weekend.

Founded in 2021, Her Game Too is a growing movement of passionate female football fans and advocates, committed to combating misogyny and creating a more inclusive environment within football. Their mission is to ensure that females feel welcome, respected and empowered to enjoy the beautiful game without fear of discrimination.

While Pools will be hosting their dedicated fixture for a third year running later in the season, Wealdstone selected Saturday as their event to raise awareness for Her Game Too.

Pools’ Her Game Too ambassador Jill met Nicola from Wealdstone in the lead up to kick-off, while both teams wore HGT shirts during their warm-up.

Young female mascots led out both teams, before Wealdstone held a lap of honour at half-time in front of a crowd of over 1400.

“As we know, football has been traditionally regarded as a man’s game,” stated Jill.

“This mentality is present throughout generations and young girls are still being told they can’t like football, never mind play or have careers within the sport.

“The amount of abuse heard in the stands and online cannot be tolerated so we actively encourage reporting incidents to help drive out this behaviour.

“Together, with professional clubs, we are using our voice to enforce a positive change. To help women and girls feel safe, included and supported when watching the best sport in the world.”
