Match Report | Pools 1-2 York City

Hartlepool United fell to a 2-1 defeat at the Prestige Group Stadium to York City as they continue their search for another home win in the Enterprise National League

Alex Newby put York in front in the first half before Ben Brookes made it two late on.

Despite a Vadine Oliver goal soon after, Pools weren’t able to find their equaliser.

Luke Charman, early on, was able to cut in from the left; however, his low shot was palmed out of play by Harrison Male.

Joe Grey marked his return to Hartlepool with an effort just on the 16th minute, after a searching ball inside the box from Joe Felix, the midfielder’s effort was well stopped by George Evans on his debut.

Charman would soon have another effort stopped by Male, after combining with Jermaine Francis, the forward’s effort was easily collected by the keeper.

Evans, just past the 20th minute, would be called in again, this time to deny Greg Olley twice from close range after his shot from ten yards out rebounded back to the winger, whose follow-up was palmed away.

York would find their opener after a scramble inside the box led to a couple shots ricocheting before falling for Alex Newby, whose shot, despite being cleared off the line by Tom Parkes, crept just over the line.

Past the half-hour mark, Ollie Pearce would then have a chance to make it two from the penalty spot after a handball call inside the box, but the striker, however, blazed his shot over the bar.

Both keepers would continue their fine form; this time, Male would produce a fantastic stop to deny Michael Dacosta’s dipping shot after the forward cut in from the left.

Evans produced yet another fine save after a great ball in from Mark Kitching was met by Grey, whose header preceded an excellent reaction save from the debutant keeper.

Into the second half, Charman had another effort to equalise after the ball fell for him on the edge of the box following a corner; however, Male was there to deny again.

York made it two with three minutes of normal time left after Ollie Banks’ cut-back from the byline was prodded home by Ben Brookes.

Hartlepool reacted well, and right from kick off, Oliver would latch onto a forward ball before out-strengthening his defender to drill a low shot across goal past Male.
