Match Report | FC Halifax Town 0-1 Pools

Adam Campbell scored his second goal in two games to fire Hartlepool United to a 1-0 victory at Halifax Town in the Enterprise National League.

Campbell converted from close range 20 minutes from time to extend Nicky Featherstone’s unbeaten run to four matches as interim boss of Pools.

The forward was not the only hero, with on-loan keeper George Evans saving a penalty when the score was goalless.

Pool began brightly with Campbell’s shot from outside the area bringing a diving save from Shaymen stopper Sam Johnson.

The home team threatened again on 17 minutes, when Evans made a strong save at his near post from Josh Hmami.

Halifax were first out of the blocks in the second half and had a cracking chance inside two minutes, but Owen Devonport headed Angelo Cappello’s left-wing cross wide from close range.

Halifax were building up a head of steam, and they were handed a gilt-edged chance to go in front in the 62nd minute, when referee George Laflin pointed to the spot.

Cappello broke into the box from the left, with Mr Laflin judging that Nathan Sheron pushed him over.

Harris stepped up, only for Evans, diving to his left, to keep out his spot-kick.

It seemed to light a fuse in Pools with Campbell at the heart of the good play, having shots blocked on 63 and 69 minutes.

Campbell fed Besart Topallaj on the left, where the substitute drove in a low cross, which was blocked to the feet of Campbell, who made no mistake in front of goal.

Pools had isolated moments in attack in the final part of the game, but much of the remaining time was spent bravely defending their box.

The Shayman forced several corners but Pool were highly resolute, especially during the eight added minutes.

There was almost a dramatic ending in the eighth minute of stoppage time when Evans saved superbly low to his left from Hmami.
