HUCSF promote No Room for Racism

Hartlepool United Community Sports Foundation have visited two local schools as part of Black History Month to promote the ‘No Room for Racism’ campaign.

Premier League Primary Stars is the Premier League’s primary school education programme. Funded by the Premier League through the Premier League Charitable Fund, the programme uses the appeal of football to help children be active and develop essential life skills.

Launched in 2017, and available to every primary school in England and Wales, Hartlepool United Community Sports Foundation is one of more than 100 professional football club community organisations across England and Wales delivering Premier League Primary Stars, supporting pupils in the classroom, the playground and on the sports field. More than 18 million children have benefited from the national programme to date.

As part of Black History Month, and in association with Premier League Primary Stars, Hartlepool United Community Sports Foundation visited two local schools to deliver a ‘No Room for Racism’ workshop to pupils in Year 5 and 6.

HUCSF staff Bianca and Vicki led the sessions at West View Primary School and Stranton Academy, where children were able to explore racism and discrimination through videos, group discussions and activities. Children learnt what it means to be an ally, and signed pledges to commit to playing their part in making their school community fair and welcoming.

Miss Jones, whose Year 5 class took part in one of the workshops, commented on how much her class took from the session. “The children thoroughly enjoyed taking part in the ‘No Room for Racism’ session. The messages were clear and pitched at the right level for the class, and having staff from Hartlepool United was really exciting and motivating for the group.”
