Grayson previews Woking home test

Hartlepool United boss Simon Grayson looks ahead to Saturday’s clash with Woking in the Enterprise National League as they return to the Prestige Group Stadium.

Speaking to the local press, the Pools boss expressed his satisfaction with the way his side has started the campaign.

“There are lots of positives from all three games, but we’re still learning.

“There are still things to develop, and to get better at as we go along.”

Despite the good start, he understands that it is still early days in the season.

“We don’t get carried away because we’ve had a good start.

“We’ve got to keep building, keep getting better and having a strong mental attitude to want to improve and all the time.”

With two consecutive wins and a maximum number of clean sheets, Grayson wants to translate the positivity from the pitch to the terraces.

“I’m a positive person, and I can’t affect what other people are thinking in certain situations, but all we can do is put a team out there that represents the community and the town of Hartlepool.

“That’s what we’re trying to do.

“There’s going to be a few bumps in the road over the next few weeks, I’m sure, but it’s how you respond to things.”

Grayson also gave an update on Jay Benn, who picked up an injury on Tuesday against Altrincham.

“It’s probably a little too early to assess the situation.

“He came off with a hamstring injury; we’ll have to see the full extent of it, and it’s a little too early to do that.

“If there’s any doubt, we won’t play him because we’ve got such a tight schedule.

“Hopefully, we can have him back as soon as possible without any risk.”

Looking ahead to Saturday’s fixture, Grayson has a lot of respect for his opposite number Neal Ardley.

“We did our badges together, so I know Ards [Neal Ardley] really well.

“He’ll be doing the utmost to make sure he can stop the rot with them at this moment in time.

“We’ve got to be respectful of the opposition, because he’s a good coach, and I know he’ll be trying to put together a performance to get a result for his team and stop us from doing what we do.”
