New Hartlepool United manager Lee Clark says he is “absolutely delighted” to take charge of the Club and is determined to help drive the Club back towards the Football League.
Speaking for the first time since his appointment, Clark revealed that the ambition shown by the Club’s ownership and directors convinced him to take on the challenge in the North East.
“When the opportunity came to speak with the Club, I took it with both hands,” he said. “After speaking with the owner and the directors about what they wanted to do, I thought this was a great opportunity to start afresh and get the Club moving in the right direction again.
“This is a club I know really well. I’ve been here many times over the years and seen some great days. When the supporters get behind the team, it’s a terrific place to be.”
Clark also outlined his vision for the team ahead of a crucial summer rebuild, with recruitment already underway following the release and retained list.
“I want ridiculously fit footballers who can play with high intensity,” he explained. “I want a team that presses, plays on the front foot and shows desire, togetherness and passion every single week.
“We know recruitment is hugely important and we’re already working hard behind the scenes to bring the right players in as early as possible for pre-season.”
A proud North Easterner himself, Clark says he understands exactly what supporters expect from a Hartlepool side.
“We demand pride in the shirt, hard work and commitment,” he said. “I’ll be demanding that from the players every day because that’s what the fans deserve.”
Clark also called on supporters to unite behind the team ahead of the new campaign.
“If we all work together for the same goal, we can be successful.”
