“Each game we are getting stronger” explains Curl

Libbie Trainor and Zara Johnson got on the scoresheet at Chester-le-Street last weekend as Pools Women recorded their second draw to start the new season.

“It was another strong performance from the team,” stated manager Alex Curl at full time.

“Each game we are getting stronger. In the first half, we were devastating going forward, creating chance after chance.

“Unfortunately we were not clinical enough on the day but the signs are encouraging. The second half was a strong defensive showing – we conceded very few chances and in the end were unfortunate to come away with just a point.

“The biggest positive from the performance was our physicality. Throughout the team we won almost every dual, and that helped us to control the game much more than we have so far this season.

“The effort and fight from the ladies was a real pleasure to watch. Everyone in the squad had specific roles and they executed them really well.”

Pools Women are back in action on Sunday afternoon at Metcalfe Park, with a 2pm kick-off against Norton.

“We’ll be looking to take all of the things we did right into that game to continue our unbeaten league start,” explained Curl.

“Norton are a side full of quality so it will be a tough test but the performances shown far this season tell me that we can match anyone in the league – physically and technically.

“We’re taking a lot of positive momentum into the game, as are our opposition, so it promises to be a tough and entertaining game.”
