Pools youngster Campbell Darcy says the first half of the season has been a ‘massive learning experience’ on loan at Northern Premier League side, Whitby Town.
The 18-year-old has played 22 times for the Seasiders, who have jumped to 11th in the table following a rocky start to the season.
Darcy has featured at Whitby alongside fellow Hartlepool loanees, Louis Stephenson and Alfie Steel.
The Whitby squad consists of several ex-Poolies, including Lewis Hawkins and Nathan Thomas. Gary Liddle has also been installed as player-manager, with Jason Kennedy as assistant.
Darcy, who has played nearly every game for Whitby since arriving, has enjoyed his loan spell so far at the Towbar Express Stadium.
“I’ve really enjoyed my time at Whitby so far,” explained Darcy.
“It’s been my first taste of men’s football for a prolonged period of time and I’m thoroughly enjoying it. It’s a massive learning experience – I feel as though I’m progressing each game and learning more and more about myself and men’s football.
“I’d definitely say it’s been tough but I think I’ve developed a lot over the last four months.
“I also managed to get my first senior goal against Hebburn Town which was a good feeling to get off the mark as I’m not usually a goalscorer being a defender.
“Gary Liddle has been fantastic with me here. When I first joined, he was a playing alongside me and on the pitch he was brilliant. He made me really comfortable and was always very vocal and helpful with me.
“He stepped up as gaffer and again he’s been top class with me. He’s showed a lot of trust me in me and I’m glad I can put in some good performances for him. I think he’s been a crucial part in my development at Whitby.
“Hopefully I can continue putting in performances and the team can pick up some more points as we rise up the table.”
