Academy Week Preview

A packed schedule for our youth teams this week…

Our U19s are on the road this Wednesday as they return to National League action, while both our U17s and SYT 2 are on home soil. Rounding off the week, our U16s are away on Saturday.

Here’s the rundown on this week’s action…

 U19s

Following last week’s historic 5-0 victory in the Academy Cup, our U19s return to National League Alliance action as they travel to Guiseley AFC on Wednesday (2pm kick-off).

Alex Cross’s side have lost just one game in eight, drawing away at Solihull Moors last time out in the league.

Pools sit sixth in the table with six points from six matches and with victory at Guiseley, Cross’s side could move into the top 3.

Wednesday’s opponents are eighth in the National League Alliance, with four points after just three games. A win could see them rise above Pools into fifth.

Last week, Guiseley AFC suffered a 1-0 defeat away at Gateshead in the Academy Cup who Pools will play in the next round.

 U17s

Our U17s return to National League action this week on home soil, as they welcome Darlington to Brierton Community Sports Centre (12pm kick-off).

Gary Liddle’s side will look to continue their momentum after an emphatic 4-0 victory last time out against Heaton Stannington.

Our U17s sit seventh in the table with seven points after six matches, victory over Darlington could see them rise as high as 2nd.

Wednesday’s visitors are 9th in the National League Alliance, with four points from six games.  A win could put them level on points with Pools.

The Quakers have just one win in their last seven, most recently suffering a 3-0 defeat to Newcastle Benfield in the league.

 U16s

Following a monumental 3-0 victory against the league leaders, our U16s have another difficult task on their hands as they travel to the group leaders York City for the JPL National League Cup (12:30pm kick-off).

Last week, a brace from Indie Coates and a goal from Zack Smith sealed a first loss of the season for UFCA and a first win of the season for Damian Shanahan’s side.

Our newly formed U16s will hope to take that momentum into their National League Cup campaign where they sit 5th in the table with just three points after four games.

With the Cup’s group stage set to split into three separate knockout tournaments, the Cup, Trophy and Vase, Shanahan’s side’s future is undecided: A win could see our U16s move into the Trophy qualification places while a loss or draw will seal our fate in the Vase.

York City sit top of the group with nine points from four games and have already cemented their spot in the Cup.

Last week, The Minstermen blasted past Scarborough Athletic with a 7-0 victory in the JPL Premier League.

 SYT

Our SYT welcome Darlington MG to Brierton Community Sports Centre in the North East College League (2pm kick-off).
