Academy Angle | Weekly Roundup 19.1.25

Here’s how our Academy teams got on last week…

Our U19s followed in the footsteps of our First Team with a victory over Altrincham, winning 3-1.

Charlie Thornton opened the scoring, Rio Daines’ perfect cross was met by Ashton Wood, who scored a header, and Noah Gilbraith’s pass was latched onto by Kian Foreman, who lobbed the Alty goalkeeper.

Academy Manager, Alex Cross, said:

“Another positive performance.

“We started sluggishly, we were slow with the ball and played into their hands, they scored, and we came to life.

“We finished the half well, tweaked a few parts of the game at half-time, and there was only one winner in the second half.

“Scored two excellent goals and it could have been more whilst being resilient and well organised all over the pitch.”

Our Shadow Youth Team had a double gameweek, facing two Tyneside teams.

The first game saw a 3-3 draw with Gateshead, with goals coming from Bowker, Naisbett and Matters.

Their second game resulted in a 3-0 triumph over the Newcastle United Foundation.

Thompson’s hattrick was the difference on the day.

Our U17s fell to a 4-3 loss at the hands of I2I Newcastle.

Taylor’s brace and Rukin’s third weren’t enough to secure an unbeaten week for the Academy.
