Okike joins Pools on loan from Hull City

Hartlepool United have completed the signing of defender Calvin Okike on a one-month work experience loan from Championship side Hull City.

The 17-year-old arrives from the Tigers’ academy system, where he has featured for their Under-18 and Under-21 sides.

Comfortable at both centre-back and left-back, the move provides the young defender with an opportunity to gain valuable senior experience while strengthening Pools’ defensive options.

Speaking after completing his move, Calvin Okike added: “I’m delighted to be here. Hartlepool is a great club with a big fan base, and this is an important step for me to experience senior football and challenge myself.

I spoke to Nicky before the move and he was clear about what he expects and what it takes to step up from academy football into the senior game here. I’m ready to work hard, learn quickly and contribute during my time at the Club.”

Manager Nicky Featherstone said: “Calvin has strong attributes and the right mentality. He’s comfortable in possession, athletic and ready for the demands of senior football.

We’ve been clear about the standards and expectations here and he understands what’s required. This loan gives him the opportunity to compete, learn quickly and show his qualities in our environment. We’re pleased to add him to the squad.”
