Nathan Asiimwe joins on loan

Hartlepool United are delighted to confirm the signing of versatile winger Nathan Asiimwe on a short-term loan deal from Charlton Athletic, subject to league approval.

Asiimwe has been at The Valley since the age of nine, earning his first professional contract in May 2023. He is comfortable across both flanks as a full-back and winger.

The 19-year-old has played 26 times for Charlton’s first team, with 18 of those appearances coming in League One.

Asiimwe also gained his first international call-up back in March, joining Uganda’s squad as they faced Comoros and Ghana.

He will wear the number 19 shirt at the Prestige Group Stadium and could be involved this weekend as Pools welcome Dagenham & Redbridge.

Upon joining Pools, Asiimwe stated:
“I’m very pleased – it’s been something that’s been in the works for quite a while now.

“It’s great that the first two games are at home, it makes it easier for me to settle in. Hopefully the fans can turn out in numbers and I’m looking forward to meeting them.”

Pools manager Darren Sarll added:
“Nathan has been a long time coming. We thank Andy Scott and Charlton Athletic, and Nathan’s representative for being really patient and accommodating.

“In Nathan, we have another fantastic athlete who again shows that we are trying to learn as the games unfold. In the absence of Luke Charman, the ability to replenish the width in the team was a challenge and with Nathan we have cover for both flanks and even full-back positions.

“I expect with Nathan’s League One experience and his hunger and desire to break back into Charlton’s first team, we will be the recipient of a very good player.”
