Young Pools secure victory against Marske

Hartlepool United U21 2-0 Marske

Hartlepool United Under-21s secured a hard-fought 2-0 victory against Marske at Seaton Carew’s, Hornby Park.

After a goalless first 45, Kian Foreman and Lewis Cuggy both scored in the second half as young Pools bounced back immediately following their 5-1 defeat to Consett two weeks ago.

Alex Cross’ side created numerous chances in the first half, with Foreman and Will Coxon both striking the post.

Jacob Penprase tried his luck from range a couple of times, with one strike sailing narrowly over the crossbar.

Jake Worth was inches away from poking Pools ahead on the half-hour mark following Abiola Basiru’s teasing cross, but the attacker’s effort was wide of the mark.

Pools took the lead after capitalising on a loose goal kick from the visitors, Matthew Taylor setting up Foreman, who took a touch with his left foot before calmly finishing into the bottom corner with his right.

Cuggy doubled Pools’ advantage with just under 20 minutes remaining, unleashing a sensational long-range strike to put Pools firmly in control.

HUFC XI: Hood, Daines, Basiru, Penprase, Flint, Gilbraith, Jolaoso, Coxon, Foreman, Taylor ©, Worth

Substitutions: Swan, Wood, Holtham, Kingsland, Aungiers, Cuggy, Cairns.
