Darren Sarll’s side were defeated away to Scarborough Athletic on Tuesday night following four second half goals.
Sarll used 21 different players during the fixture, with Max Storey playing the full 90 minutes for the visitors.
Storey found the net early on for Pools, latching onto Adam Campbell’s pass, however the goal was ruled out for an offside in the build-up.
Campbell forced Boro keeper Ryan Whitley into a neat save in the first half, while Kieran Glynn rattled the crossbar from long range at the other end.
With a new-look team out for the second half, Pools went behind early as Frank Mulhern tapped home at close-range.
The visitors equalised in the 68th minute as Anthony Mancini’s corner led to a penalty, and the Frenchman stepped up to dispatch into the bottom right corner.
Moments later though, Scarborough were back in front as Mulhern lobbed over Joel Dixon for his second of the game.
And his hat-trick came with 78 on the clock as he directed a header into the back of Dixon’s net after linking up with a trialist.
Dixon prevented a fourth in the dying stages, with neat saves against Harry Green and Luca Colville, before the referee called time on proceedings at 3-1.
Pools now turn their attention to Saturday’s trip to another National League North side in South Shields.
