Pools manager Darren Sarll has confirmed the extent of Joe Aungiers and Luke Waterfall’s injuries following Saturday’s fixture at Yeovil Town.
Seventeen-year-old Aungiers, who broke into the first team from the Academy side during pre-season, was set to be involved on the opening day of the season at Huish Park.
However, Sarll explained the attacker was forced to miss out after suffering an injury in training.
“It’s very sad for Joe,” he commented.
“During Thursday’s training session, he had an innocuous fall and has broken his wrist.
“He’s been to the hospital – Danny O’Connor was fabulous with looking after him. It’s a shame for Joe because he would’ve been in the matchday squad today – that would’ve been an experience he could remember forever.
“It’s far too short notice to put a time frame on it – I would’ve thought a month or two for a broken wrist but it just depends how bad it is. He’s a young lad and we need to make sure we do the right thing.”
Meanwhile, Pools skipper Waterfall was forced off midway through the second half with a knock, with Sarll revealing the latest.
“We’re not yet too sure on Luke,” stated Sarll.
“I think it was cramp turning into a strain so we’ll need a few days to bring his body back in line.
“I thought it was his best performance, which is not surprising because it’s the fittest he’s been. Hopefully we can roll him back out there on Saturday.
“Tom Parkes was the same – I think he had a dead leg more than cramp.”
