After suffering defeat against Halifax Town, midfielder Nathan Sheron has called on his teammates to learn from the result and respond positively when Woking visit Victoria Park on Saturday.

“It’s about us now bouncing back,” says Hartlepool United midfielder Nathan Sheron following his side’s 1-0 defeat away to Halifax Town in the Enterprise National League.

Will Hugill’s 53rd-minute strike secured the three points for the Shaymen, as Pools suffered a third consecutive league loss.

And with Lee Clark’s side facing Woking at Victoria Park on Saturday, Sheron believes a response is needed.

“We know we weren’t good enough tonight. The last few games we’ve not been good enough, so it’s about us now bouncing back and making sure we’re at the races on Saturday,” the midfielder said.

“We need that cutting edge. Goals can come from anywhere – we need to start putting chances away and building from there. It’s about us looking in the mirror and realising we have to step it up.

“We’re all disappointed with the result. We’ve let the fans down. Not many other clubs in this division will get the same following. We know they pay their hard-earned money, so it’s about us now rewarding them.

“[Let’s] put this behind us, go back to basics and get a win on Saturday.”

Academy graduate Charlie Thornton, who signed his first Pools professional contract in the summer, came on in the second half at The Shay Stadium, making a positive impact alongside Sheron in midfield.

“I’m happy for Charlie,” the midfielder added. “We’ve seen his quality in training for the last few weeks, and he’s a player who’s got great ability. So yeah, I’m delighted for him.”
