Hartlepool United Academy claimed an impressive 3-1 victory over Harrogate Town on Tuesday morning in the EFL Youth Alliance Cup.
A Jacob Penprase double, alongside a Kian Foreman strike, saw Ian McGuckin’s side come from behind against an in-form Town side.
Youth team coach, Graeme Clark, was delighted at the full time whistle.
“It was good start to the game as we moved the ball well, but a mistimed tackle saw Harrogate go ahead from the spot,” he stated.
“We continued to play though and created some good openings. After the break, we came out firing and got the equaliser in the 47th minute through Jacob.
“Within minutes, we got ourselves in front, again from some excellent passing play with Jacob calmly finishing off the move.
“With momentum in our favour, we finished things off in the 62nd minute as a flowing attacking move was converted by Kian.
“Harrogate made a number of changes but we continued to control the game and any attacks they made were dealt with well.
“Overall, it was a good consistent performance over the 90 minutes from the group. A well deserved win and we’re looking forward to the next one.”
The Academy side return to league duties on Saturday morning with an 11am kick-off against Accrington Stanley at Blackhall.
