Anthony Limbrick’s Hartlepool United secured a comfortable first win in eight, and first home win since New Year’s Day against an in-form Boston United.

Pools came flying out the blocks as Gary Madine brought down Reyes Cleary’s cross and powered a shot into the far corner.

Boston began to find their feet in the game and got their reward when Jacob Hazel turned well in the box to stroke an effort past Adam Smith.

Pools suddenly got a bit of fire in their bellies after conceding and Dieseruvwe got his 13th league goal of the season as he picked up on a bobbling ball in the box and rolled it home.

Boston went close again through Hazel early in the second half, but it was Pools who increased their advantage when a quick counter-attack eventually fell to Cleary in the box who coolly found the bottom corner.

With minutes to play, Jamie Miley got his first goal at the Prestige Group Stadium. After Dieseruvwe’s effort was saved, the young midfielder fired a low strike beyond Cameron Gregory.

Limbrick made two changes from the home draw against Solihull last time out, with Joe Grey and Adam Campbell dropping to the bench making way for Anthony Mancini and Madine.

An entertaining first half opened with Madine’s volleyed effort sailing wide, but just a minute later Pools’ number nine took down Cleary’s cross and finished into the far corner.

Boston had their best chance as Smith got down well to save Brad Nicholson’s free-kick.

Just three minutes later Boston got the equaliser they deserved as top scorer Hazel found space in the box and swept his shot beyond Smith’s outstretched arm.

This seemed to wake Pools up as they had two chances within a minute, first with Mancini’s chipped effort going narrowly over the bar, shortly followed by Dieseruvwe firing a shot just wide.

The pressure finally paid off with great work from Cleary again down the left, his cross bobbled around until Pools’ top scorer Dieseruvwe latched on to the loose ball and passed home.

Limbrick will have been left wondering how his side didn’t have a comfortable advantage at the break, as Mancini’s audacious backheel set Cleary away but the loanee dragged his shot wide.

Minutes later Dieseruvwe nearly had his second, but Boston keeper Gregory made a great save to force the effort onto the bar.

The away side went agonisingly close to equalising early in the second half, as Hazel’s lobbed attempt bounced a fraction too soon and went over the top.

Pools had a good chance to increase their lead after Mancini’s dazzling footwork opened an opportunity for a cross that was headed inches over by Madine.

Midway through the second half, Limbrick’s side finally had a bit of breathing space. A lightning-fast counter-attack resulted in Mancini’s effort being blocked from close range, Boston failed to clear their lines and were punished as Cleary calmly slotted the ball beyond Gregory from 15 yards.

Jai Rowe’s long-ranged swerving effort was saved well by Smith with 15 to play, as Boston increased their tempo.

However, it was Pools who rounded off a splendid afternoon with just three minutes of normal time remaining, Dieseruvwe had his close-range header saved well, but picked up the rebound and found Miley to drive home a fourth for the home side.
