Match Preview: Pools go to Gateshead

26 March 2024

Hartlepool United take on their shortest away journey of the season on Tuesday night, with a trip to Gateshead in National League action.

The Lowdown

Pools made their furthest journey on Saturday, with a 1-1 draw away to Eastleigh. Joe Grey scored his ninth goal of the season, but a late penalty decision meant Pools had to settle for a point. Kevin Phillips' side currently lie 14th in the National League table.

Gateshead, under the stewardship of Rob Elliot, sit inside the play-off places in sixth. Last time out, they came from behind twice to claim a 3-2 victory at Altrincham, with Kain Adom scoring the winner from distance. They list former Poolies Kenton Richardson and Marcus Dinanga in their squad, while Carl Magnay will be in the dugout.

The History

The sides have met six times in the last decade with Pools claiming three wins, Gateshead winning one, and two games ending in a draw.

When both sides met at the start of the season, Mani Dieseruvwe's debut double handed Pools a 2-1 victory at the Suit Direct Stadium. The hosts played nearly the full second half with 10 men, but Dieseruvwe scored in the last minute to steal the win.

Team News

Dan Dodds, Luke Hendrie, Anthony Mancini, Otis Khan, Brennan Dickenson and Josh Umerah all remain sidelined for Tuesday's fixture.

Alex Lacey will also be a concern after coming off early on Saturday with a hamstring injury.
