Match Report: Pools beat Bromley on the road

3 February 2024

Mani Dieseruvwe's header and an own goal meant Kevin Phillips made it two wins from two in the Hartlepool dugout.

With Anthony Mancini and Otis Khan missing through injury, Pools boss Kevin Phillips named two changes to the starting line-up with Joe Grey and Courtney Senior entering the action.

Bromley found the net with their first chance of the game. Corey Whitley drove down the left flank and squared to a lurking Michael Cheek, who tapped home easily at close-range.

Pools still looked neat in possession, though, and missed chances through Senior and Callum Cooke before the equaliser eventually came.

On 28 minutes, Pools retained possession from a corner and Nicky Featherstone sent a deep cross back into the danger zone where Dieseruvwe beautifully glanced a header into the top left corner.

Bromley could count themselves unlucky to not be ahead once again in the 40th minute. Ashley Charles’ free-kick, destined for the top corner, was sensationally tipped over the bar by Joel Dixon.

It was then Pools’ turn to be in disbelief at the other side of the break. Featherstone’s free-kick fell to the back post, where both Tom Crawford and Luke Waterfall were kept out by the keeper at point-blank range.

Phillips’ side continued to show attacking intent, most notably with Senior drilling a ball across the face of goal, before Pools struck ahead on the hour mark.

Cooke broke away on the counter-attack before setting Grey. His cross, intended for Dieseruvwe, was turned in by Bromley debutant Kamarl Grant to put Pools in front.

There were chances at both ends in the final stages. Besart Topalloj sent a header wide for Bromley, while Brennan Dickenson forced a save from Grant Smith and Cooke rattled the crossbar.

Pools: Dixon, Hendrie, Waterfall, Parkes, Ferguson, Featherstone, Crawford, Grey, Cooke (Wallace 89), Senior (Dickenson 71), Dieseruvwe

Subs (not used): Jameson, Onariase, Burton

Goals: Dieseruvwe (28), Grant (own goal, 60)

Bromley goal: Cheek (9)
