Foundation: PCC Spring Activities launched

1 February 2024

In partnership with Cleveland Police and Crime Commissioner, Hartlepool United Community Sports Foundation have organised several free football sessions over the coming weeks for children in the local area.

HUCSF plan to use football as a tool to engage 12–16-year-olds in the local area and keep them busy throughout the February and April holiday periods at Brierton Sports Centre. The target audience are at an age where boredom in the school holidays can potentially lead to antisocial behaviour within the community, which these sessions aim to prevent.

The plan is to give teenagers the opportunity to play, coach and even officiate football, teaching them about various things such as rules, responsibilities and working as part of a team. These transferable skills will hopefully help them, not only on the sports field, but in general life.

The course is also designed to enhance their physical and mental wellbeing, and to provide a safe and positive environment to promote and encourage respect.

HUCSF will work with local secondary schools to target students from deprived socio-economic backgrounds as well as those who have been identified as vulnerable and/or at risk of antisocial behaviour, via our contact with the local police.

Player visits from Hartlepool United players will also help raise aspirations and talk to participants about their careers and the skills they need to be successful.
