Ronnie Moore appointed Chief Scout

3 April 2024

Hartlepool United are delighted to confirm the appointment of Ronnie Moore as the Club’s Chief Scout.

Ronnie holds a great legacy within football, having made over 600 appearances and managed nearly 1000 matches.

He's remembered fondly by Poolies for his spell in charge at the Suit Direct where he notably masterminded survival in the Football League in 2015 - dubbed as 'The Great Escape.'

Returning as Chief Scout, Ronnie will be attending fixtures where key player targets have been identified by the Club. He will also form part of the decision-making process when signing players for the first team.

Upon re-joining Hartlepool United, Ronnie stated:

"It's fantastic to be back at Hartlepool and I'm really looking forward to it. I've never forgotten my time at Pools - I had a few promotions in my career, but that survival feeling was one of the best emotions I've ever felt. The supporters were extraordinary and I’m passionate about this Club. I want to see it back where it belongs.

“Often as a manager I would scout players myself, but I’m really looking forward to being able to solely focus on recruitment, giving it my full time and attention. We've got a list of targets to look at for the summer and it's important to get some winning players into the squad. It's not just about how good they are on the pitch but what they're like in the dressing room - that's why doing the correct due diligence is vital.”

Head of Football Operations, Joe Monks, commented:

“Bringing Ronnie in with his experience is excellent for the Club. He knows this level of football very well and he already watches a huge number of games each year.

“My role is very wide-ranging, making sure all the football departments are working effectively and supporting the Head Coach. Being able to bring in a Chief Scout to support and focus solely on first-team recruitment is an excellent addition and I must thank the Chairman for his backing in that.

“The coming summer will be a critical time for the Club as we look to move away from the short-term loans that we have had to use this season. We will be looking to reshape the squad and add a significant number of senior players. Ronnie with his skillset will undoubtedly support us to identify, assess and hopefully secure the right players."

Hartlepool United Chairman, Raj Singh, commented:

“What Ronnie achieved here as a manager puts him in the highest regard and you can tell that he cares deeply about the Club and wants it to be successful. That for me was very important. He also knows this level of football exceptionally well and is based in Yorkshire, allowing him to easily cover the patch south of Hartlepool where a lot of our players can realistically come from. I’d like to welcome Ronnie back to the Club and wish him every success.”
