Thank you, Nicky Featherstone

28 July 2023

We can today confirm that Nicky Featherstone has officially left the club. The midfielder leaves after making 380 appearances for the club, leaving him eighth on the all-time list.

Nicky started his career with Pools in October 2014, joining as a free agent under Paul Murray. After settling into the side, he extended his contract to the end of the season. He then further extended his contract, scoring his first goal for Pools in the 2016/17 season.

In March 2020, Nicky made his 250th appearance for Pools in a 1-0 defeat to Ebbsfleet. After an impressive campaign, he signed a further deal for the 2020-21 season. In the 20-21 campaign, he was an integral part of the midfield alongside Gavan Holohan and Mark Shelton, taking Pools up the table and into contention for promotion.

In the 2021 Promotion Final, Nicky started and captained the side. Alongside Donaldson, he hoisted the trophy high into the air as Pools reclaimed their place in the Football League.

After being promoted with Pools, he penned a new deal and went on to play two further seasons in blue and white, both as club captain after Donaldson's departure. During the 2022-23 season, he moved into the top 10 appearance makers for Pools, in-between Brian Honour and Micky Barron.

John Askey has added: I may have only worked with Nicky for a few months but I know he will remembered as a club legend. A great player who offered me great support during last season and I can't thank him enough for his contributions. Everyone at Hartlepool United wishes him all the best in the future.

Chairman Raj Singh commented: I’d like to personally thank Nicky for the incredible service over the years including those that I have been Chairman. He’s been a true professional and leader and he’s handled both the ups and downs with real integrity. I’m sure he will be a success wherever he goes on to and we all wish him the very best in his next chapter.
