Match report: Pools put three past Marske

12 July 2022

Hartlepool United ran out 3-0 winners over Northern Premier League side Marske United in a competitive pre-season friendly.

In a disjointed first half, Pools saw most of the ball, though flashes of quality came from the hosts through former Poolies Connor Simpson, Jason Kennedy, and Josh MacDonald.

Hastie and Niang both shot wide and Trialist A went closest when their shot hit the post. Halftime changes invigorated Pools and the first goal arrived after 59 minutes.

Hastie worked the ball down the left and his far-post cross found Grey who nodded beyond Catterick. The second came ten minutes later. Niang, still up from a corner, found space in the box and volleyed beyond the ‘keeper.

It was three shortly afterwards as Reghan Tumilty got in on the act. Cutting in from the right-hand side, the full-back took aim with his left foot and smashed the ball beyond Catterick.

A couple of chances fell Marske’s way in the final knockings, but neither did enough to bother Letheren in the Pools goal.

Attention now turns to Pools’ home fixtures, with Lincoln City up first on Saturday (3pm KO).
