Match Preview: Vale visit the Suit Direct

14 April 2022

Fresh from a positive result on the road, Hartlepool United return to home soil as they welcome Port Vale to the Suit Direct Stadium (3pm KO).

The Opposition

Port Vale are currently third in the table, occupying the final automatic play-off place with just five games to play. They've won four of their last five games, defeating Sutton, Barrow, Salford, and Oldham in recent weeks.

Former Poolie Darrell Clarke lead the Valiants, and their side features former Manchester United forward James Wilson and Brad Walker, a midfielder with 123 appearances and 10 goals for Pools.

The History

The sides have met 50 times in the past, with Pools winning 18 times, Vale winning 20 times, and 12 games ending in a draw. Earlier this season, Port Vale won 2-0 at Vale Park after goals from Ben Garrity and Tom Pett.

Current Pools coach Tony Sweeney scored in Pools' last victory over Vale in 2008, while the visitors' manager, Darrell Clarke, bagged in the Hartlepool side that won 5-2 in 2004.

Team News

Friday is likely to come too soon for Luke Molyneux after his injury against Mansfield, though the forward has returned to training and will hope to appear before the end of the season. Otherwise, Pools have a full squad to choose from for this Good Friday clash.
