Despite winning four home games on the trot in League Two, Hartlepool United are still looking for their first points on the road this season. Challinor's side will look to get these points on the board with a trip to basement boys, Oldham Athletic.
With just one win this season, a 2-1 victory over Sutton United, Oldham sit bottom of League Two. Their most recent defeats came at the hands of Leyton Orient and Barrow, losing 4-0 and 3-0 respectively.
The side is led by former Carlisle United gaffer Keith Curle. Curle took over from the sacked Harry Kewell in March 2021 and has assembled a squad that includes former Blackburn stopper Jayson Leutwiler and captain Carl Piergianni, a one-time Salford City teammate of Mark Shelton.
This will be the 69th meeting between the two sides, with Pools winning 22 of the previous encounters. 13 games have ended in a draw, while Oldham have been the victors on 33 occasions. The last game between the sides was in March 2013 when goals from Jean-Yves M'voto, Robbie Simpson, and Jose Baxter was Oldham run out 3-0 winners at Boundary Park.
Mark Shelton and Gavan Holohan both missed Tuesday night's trip to Sutton United, with the former likely to be involved again on Saturday. Holohan may be out for longer, depending on how he reacts to treatments. New signings Mike Fondop and Jordan Cook are both in contention after joining the club on Thursday. Tyler Burey is a long-term absentee.
