Pools sign Will Goodwin

11 August 2021

We are delighted to announce the loan signing of Will Goodwin.

The forward joins us on loan from Championship side Stoke City till January 2022.

Will signed for the Championship club in February from National League North Side Chester FC.

Well known for his physical presence and finishing ability, the forward signed his first senior deal at Chester in June 2020.

The striker had a successful run in the side after signing his professional deal and scored his first senior goal in the FA Trophy win over Bradford (PA).

Goodwin went on to make 11 appearances for Chester, which included a debut at 17 years old in at Royston Town.

The 19-year old has been featuring for Stoke U23s and has most recently enjoyed training with the first team and making his senior debut for the club during pre-season.

Dave Challinor spoke about his new signing:

I am delighted to welcome Will to the club and really looking forward to working with him. Despite being young, he has had a real taste of men's football throughout and I think we have got the right setup for him to continue developing.

This is certainly a step up from u23s football but he has the physical attributes to do well. Will has a willingness to stretch the game and be in the right areas at the right time.

Goodwin spoke about his new club:

Once I heard Hartlepool were interested, it was a no brainer for me. I was at the game against Crewe and the fans were so passionate.

It is such a huge club even for League Two and it is a real honour to sign on loan. I can't wait to get started.

Goodwin will wear the number 11 shirt.
