Dave Challinor has urged his players to focus on the things
they can control after Saturday's game at Sutton United was given the go-ahead
Rumours had been rife that fixtures could be postponed
following the Premier League and EFL's decision to suspend all their football
activity until the start of April due to the escalation of the Coronavirus
outbreak. However, a National League statement arrived just after 3pm
to confirm that Pools' trip to Gander Green Lane this weekend would still be
played as scheduled. The news was delivered to the Pools boss as he oversaw a
training session at Oxford United's base on Friday and he admitted that the green
light is the cue for his players to refocus on the task ahead.“All the noises that have been made was that they would do everything
they could to play the games, unless there was Government intervention,” he
told Pools TV.“Things have escalated really quickly in a short space oftime and continue to do so on an hourly basis so it's a very strange situation.
“All we can do is control what we can control. It might be easier for me to do that than the players because individually they will look at the rumours and the speculation – but we can't use anything as an excuse.
“Nothing changes from our perspective – it's a chance for us to get back to winning ways at a tough place to go with difference challenges but we will go there trying to do everything we can to win.”
