Pools Youth Team were worthy winners against AFC Fylde on
Wednesday afternoon as they fired three unanswered goals past their visitors at
Ian McGuckin's men went in to the game keen to build on a
solid 1-1 draw with Chester last time out a fortnight ago and aiming to build
some real momentum for the second half of the league season. That focus was on display from the early stages in Blackhall
as Pools quickly got on to the front foot and began causing problems for The
Coasters' rearguard.Adam Campbell fired a shot just over and Joe Grey had a
couple of half chances in the opening stages during which McGuckin's youngsters
dictated the play. They got their rewards midway through the first half when
Grey was released through on goal and he calmly slid the ball past the Fylde
keeper to make it 1-0.The second half continued in a similar pattern and Pools
doubled their lead when Adam Chapman got clear on goal and he slipped the ball
past the advancing keeper from just inside the area.Pools really had the game by the scruff of the neck at this
point and created numerous good chances during the second period; Campbell
fired another effort just over the bar, while Grey just couldn't keep his shot
down after getting on the end of a great delivery from Coleby Shepherd. The third goal did arrive with 75 minutes on the clock
though as Harrison Webster was given time and space to let fly with a shot from
the left corner of the box and it took a deflection before finding its way in
to the net.“We were good value for the win and probably could havescored more goals,” admitted McGuckin.
“The lads played really well and dominated for the majorityof the game, played some good football and created plenty of opportunities.
“The result is a real positive for us given we were beaten
at Fylde quite heavily earlier in the season so we now have to use that as a
platform on which to build.”Full Time: Pools 3 AFC Fylde 0
