Match report: Pools win at Notts County

28 December 2020

Dave Challinor's men made it three wins from three after an impressive 1-0 victory at Meadow Lane.

It was a strong start for Pools who made two changes to the side that beat Halifax. A cross in the box after eight minutes just evaded Armstrong as Pools attacked. A few moments later Holohan hit a sweet strike on the edge of the box but it just went over.

Pools got their reward for all their hard work on 20 minutes. A ball through from Holohan was fantastically chased down by Oates who fizzed the ball across for Armstrong to tap home. 1-0.

On 30 minutes a free-kick from Featherstone was played over the top of the County defence where Holohan could only volley over.

The second half started with a re-energised County side who took the game to Pools looking for an equaliser.

A good spell of possession from the home side on 50 minutes led to a shot on goal from Wooton but Killip was there to collect.

Backs against the walls for the Hartlepool defence as Bridley came down the right hand side, got himself to the byline and fizzed the ball across the six yard box but no one for County was there to tap it in.

The game went from bad to worse for County on 82 mins. Bloomfield, who had recently come on, looked to in the header but he was met with a boot to the face by Turner. The referee had no choice but to reduce County to ten men.

On 89 minutes, Neil Ardley's men thought they had their equaliser. A flick-on from Sam was put in the net by Knowles but the linesman deemed it offside.

Pools were able to hold on despite the six minutes added time. Challinor's men climb up to second for New Year.
