Preview: Aldershot Town v Pools

11 October 2019

Aldershot Town v Hartlepool United
National League
Saturday 12th October 2019, 3pm
The EBB Stadium

In Opposition

Aldershot Town were handed a National League reprieve during the summer when Gateshead's demotion allowed The Shots to avoid being relegated from the fifth tier.

Gary Waddock left as boss to be replaced by former Braintree

Town chief Danny Searle and he's overseen an inconsistent start for the

Hampshire outfit.

They were without a win in three going in to their midweek

meeting with Dover Athletic but a brilliant 4-0 triumph is sure to have boosted

their confidence ahead of Pools' visit.

The recent signing of forward Mo Bettamer also provided a

welcome lift for Town fans who have seen an overhaul in the squad at The EBB

Stadium since the end of last season.

One To Watch

Shots boss Danny Searle snapped up Mo Bettamer on a deal until the end of the season at the start of this month and he will be hoping to provide the goals that lift the club up the league table.

The 26-year-old had an unhappy stint with Barnet following

his move from Braintree Town so was only too happy to link-up once again with

Searle at The EBB Stadium.

Bettamer – a former teammate of Pools keeper Ben Killip –

scored against us for Braintree at the start of last season as they nicked a

last-gasp draw at Cressing Road.

Head To Head

Saturday's game will be the 60th competitive meeting between the two clubs and Aldershot have the best record, having won 27 of the previous encounters.

Both games last season finished 1-1, while The Shots did thedouble over Pools in the National League during 2017/18.

Pools' last win in the fixture came in the FA Cup back in

December 2004 when an unlikely double from Chris Westwood paved the way for a

5-1 win in which Adam Boyd (2) and Mark Tinkler also found the net.
