A group of Pools stars have seen first-hand the cutting-edge facilities on offer at an 84-bed specialist care centre for those living with a dementia or related condition, which has been redesigned and refurbished by Chairman Raj Singh.

Myles Anderson, Nicke Kabamba, Ben Killip, Peter Kioso and Niko Muir were invited along to the impressive August Communities in Middleton St George to see the results of a £750,000 remodelled building, grounds and refurbishment.

Named in honour of Auguste Deter – the first person to be diagnosed with Alzheimer's Disease – Auguste Communities is the first of a new generation of care centres being developed by Singh's Prestige Care Group.

The players were given a guided tour of the facility, which is based in its own scenic grounds and boasts professional nursing and state-of-the-art technology to provide the perfect environment for residents living with a form of dementia.

They even got the chance to visit the care centre's portable Snoezelen multi-sensory room and test out the Tovertafel – dubbed ‘the magic table' – that projects a series of interactive games on to a surface to achieve social interaction, mental stimulation and physical activity for the residents.

“It was amazing to see all the different activities and technology they have for the residents,” admitted Pools striker, Kabamba.

“The investment they have made in to the magic table and the sensory room is brilliant; it just feels like they have thought of everything when it comes to delivery of care for people living with a dementia.”

Paul Smith, a Prestige Director, added: “Auguste Communities will rewrite the rule book for dementia care, setting the bar at a new height.

“We're confident that there's nothing quite like this in the region – but we're rolling out the formula of first-class care in combination with innovation across our Tees Valley care centres.”
