Craig Hignett wants to see his side being more positive on
the ball this weekend when they make their first long trip of the new season to
Pools have tasted defeat in their two opening games of the
fresh campaign so far but Hignett remains confident in the ability of his squad
and says the first win will set them off and running.Saturday's assignment will be far from easy against a Magpies
side who raised eyebrows with a 1-0 away win at Stockport County on the opening
day before holding Chesterfield to a draw on Tuesday. However, the Pools boss has seen enough from his players to
know that they have plenty more to give and he is demanding a sharper cutting
edge when they take to the field at York Road this weekend.“It will be a tough game because they've started quite well,”Hignett told Pools TV.
“They have an organised way of playing and they know what
they're trying to do. They've played with one up front away at Stockport and
two up front at home maybe that's the way they'll go again on Saturday.“But it's about us and what we do with the ball. I want to
have lots of possession and control games but I don't want to do it just
sideways and backwards – we have to look forward so we've done some more work
on that.“I think the frustrating thing for everyone – coaches, staff,
players and fans – is that we know the strength of the squad we've got. We all
want the same thing, to be pushing in and around the top.“As I said before though, I won't get too panicky with just
two games gone but the quicker we get the three points on the board the better –
and when we do the players will take confidence and we'll be on our way.”Click here now to watch the full pre-match video interview with Craig Hignett.
