Youth Team Look To Finish With A Win

25 April 2019

Pools Youth Team will hope to finish their North East Division season on a high when they make the trip to Scunthorpe United on Thursday evening (6pm kick-off).

Ian McGuckin's youngsters have enjoyed a strong campaign, currently lying fifth in the table though they still have an outside chance of finishing in the top three if they defeat The Iron later.

Pools won 3-1 when the sides met in the league in the opening month of the campaign but Scunthorpe took revenge by running out 4-2 winners in the League Cup two weeks later.

Their hosts sit second bottom in the table prior to kick-off but McGuckin says his players will face a big challenge if they want to collect the victory.

“We really want to end on a positive note and get the three points,” he told us.

“I will be telling the lads to go out and enjoy the last game – let's have a go, get on the front foot and let's finish things off on a high.

“There is always room for improvement but, on the whole, we're pleased with the season. There have been lots of positives to take and a lot of good team and individual performances.

“Now we're want them to go and hit those standards one more time and round off the season with another win.”

McGuckin has a fully-fit squad to choose from for the game, which takes place at Appleby Frodingham Sports & Social Club in Scunthorpe at 6pm. Entry is free for all supporters.
