Women In Action At Super 6 Stadium On Sunday

20 April 2019

Pools Women's Team will take centre stage on Easter Sunday when they play their NERWFL Premier Division game against Wallsend at The Super 6 Stadium (2pm kick-off).

It's the final home fixture of another successful season as Jonathan Gibbon-Hayes' side look to secure a runners-up spot behind champions Durham Cestria.

Their 5-2 victory over Tynedale last time out kept them in second place but they know that nothing less than another three points will do on Sunday ahead of their final day showdown with third-placed South Shields.

Wallsend currently lie eighth and Pools are looking to complete a season treble over their Tyneside opponents having already beaten them in the Premier Division and League Cup earlier this term.

There is big excitement in the camp ahead of their game on the main pitch at The Super 6 Stadium and the boss is hoping that a big crowd can come along to cheer the girls on.

“It's been a fantastic week for the Women's Team and the Club in general,” Gibbon-Hayes told us.

“I think the fact that we are playing at The Super 6 Stadium has got people in the town talking about us – I even got recognised in the Club Shop earlier this week so that was pretty special!

“I want the players to enjoy the occasion, of course, but we are playing for second place and the standards can't drop.

“We need to be clinical in front of goal and I really want the team to go out there and show the fans who turn up what we can do.

“We're hoping for a really big crowd on Sunday so I would just appeal to any Poolies who fancy taking in a game of football to come along and support us.”

Gibbon-Hayes will be boosted by the availability of the influential Jenni Duffy-Smith after she missed last weekend's friendly win over Middlesbrough Reserves.

Admission on Sunday is just £1 for all supporters. Turnstiles open at around 1.15pm but the Centenary Lounge will be open from 12.30pm and after the game.
