Women Aim To Finish On A High

26 April 2019

Pools Women's Team are set to bring down the curtain on another successful season when they travel to face South Shields on Sunday afternoon (2pm kick-off).

Jonathan Gibbon-Hayes side were boosted by a brilliant 7-1 destruction of Wallsend during their game at The Super 6 Stadium on Easter Sunday and now they will hope to carry that form in to the weekend.

Pools are just about assured of finishing in runners-up spot in the NERWFL Premier Division, behind runaway leaders Durham Cestria who won all 18 of their games this term.

Shields have two games remaining and are only six points behind Pools in third – however, Pools' vastly superior goal difference means that this weekend's host are unlikely to overtake them.

And Gibbon-Hayes' outfit will be looking to complete a treble over the home side on Sunday having beaten them 4-3 in the home fixture and also triumphed over them 1-0 in the League Cup earlier this season.

“I think everybody is still on a high after last weekend's game at The Super 6 Stadium,” admitted the Pools boss.

“It was an incredible experience for us all and it was nice to hear so many people talking about us.

“Now it's back to business as usual and we will be looking to end the season with another win because it's all about keeping that momentum going.

“South Shields are a very good side so I am expecting a tough game but this kind of fixture is the perfect way to end the campaign.

“We're pretty gutted that the season is coming to an end but we're also very excited about the plans that are already taking shape for pre-season with some high-profile friendlies set to be confirmed.”

Gibbon-Hayes will have an almost fully-fit squad to choose from ahead of Sunday's game, though midfielder Lottie Portas, who scored in the win over Wallsend, is unavailable.

The game takes place at Harton Westoe Miners Welfare in South Shields and entry is free to all supporters.
