Match Preview: Hartlepool head to Woking

10 February 2024

After two wins in a row, Hartlepool United are looking to continue their fine run of form under Kevin Phillips in front of the TV cameras against Woking on Saturday (5.30pm kick-off).

The Lowdown

The Kevin Phillips era has started well for Pools after two good wins over York City and Bromley. Mani Dieseruvwe and Callum Cooke returning from injury, along with four new additions, have given the side a boost with Pools now just seven points from the play-offs.

Woking are 20th, seven points behind Pools. Manager Michael Doyle has made over 800 career appearances and guided the Cards to a 2-0 victory over Oxford City in midweek - their first home win since August.

The History

Earlier this season, Ricky Korboa’s second-half brace gave Woking at 2-0 win at the Suit Direct Stadium. The sides have met seven times altogether, with Pools winning three times, Woking winning twice, and two matches ending in a draw.

Team News

There are no new injury concerns in the camp following last weekend's win at Bromley. Dan Dodds, Josh Umerah, Otis Khan and Courtney Duffus all remain sidelined for Pools. Alex Lacey and Anthony Mancini are also unlikely to feature, though the pair are making good progress.

How to Follow

The match is being broadcast live on TNT Sports on Saturday evening. You can watch the game live in the 1908 Bar, with full coverage in the company of Poolies. Doors open from 3pm until late on Saturday, with no entry free required. Please note access is only available through the car park doors.

Match Report: Pools draw with Woking

10 February 2024

Hartlepool United were denied an away victory in front of the TV cameras through a last-minute Woking equaliser.

Kevin Phillips named an unchanged team from last weekend’s win at Bromley, and they got off to the perfect start at the Laithwaite Community Stadium.

Pools enjoyed a great period of a possession, resulting in David Ferguson hooking a low cross into Joe Grey to tap home at the front post.

The visitors continued to press in the opening stages and could’ve added a second in the 24th minute.

Callum Cooke led the way for a Pools counter-attack and fed Grey, but the striker couldn’t take advantage in front of goal as the goalkeeper saved low.

The resulting corner from Nicky Featherstone hit an on-rushing Mani Dieseruvwe, who powerfully headed over the target.

With 33 on the clock, Pools thought they made it two. Tom Crawford met a ball from the right and his header crossed the line, but it was ruled out for a foul.

At the other end, Dennon Lewis jinked through the Pools defence before forcing a point-blank save from Joel Dixon in the Hartlepool goal.

Woking pushed forward in the second half but Dixon wasn’t tested until the 91st minute.

The Pools keeper made a tremendous save initially, but the visitors failed to clear their lines and Lewis Walker fired home from close-range.

After settling for a point on the road, Pools now turn their attention to Boreham Wood at home next weekend.

Pools: Dixon, Hendrie, Waterfall, Parkes, Ferguson, Featherstone, Crawford, Senior (Dickenson 68), Cooke, Grey, Dieseruvwe

Subs (not used) Jameson, Onariase, Burton, Wallace

Goal: Grey (7)

Woking goal: Walker (90+1)
