Mani Dieseruvwe was at the double on Saturday afternoon as the frontman fired Pools to a 2-0 win over Tommy Widdrington’s Aldershot Town.
Former Pools midfielder Widdrington made a number of changes to his side following Wednesday’s goalless draw against Southend, while Pools were unchanged.
Caretaker boss Lennie Lawrence sent his side out all guns blazing as Adam Campbell fired past the post, before Dieseruvwe opened the scoring on five minutes.
Rollin Menayese, a former Pools defender, was put under pressure by Dieseruvwe before the striker slammed a sensational strike into the back of the net.
It was all-Pools and Dieseruvwe could’ve had a second before the 20th minute but Marcus Dewhurst got down well in the away goal.
There were three more chances to come for the striker, but Dewhurst stayed solid in the Shots goal, in particular making two goal-line stops.
Dewhurst again denied Dieseruvwe after the break, but from David Ferguson’s resulting corner, the Pools forward made no mistake in directing past the keeper for his second of the game.
Anthony Mancini, Luke Charman and Roshaun Mathurin added energy to Lawrence’s side from the bench as Pools continued to see the game out.
Dieseruvwe found the roof of the net, but was unable to find his hat-trick as the referee called time on a 2-0 win for Pools.
