Gareth Horwood appointed Women’s Head Coach

Hartlepool United Women are delighted to announce the appointment of Gareth Horwood as the team’s new Head Coach.

Gareth will be supported by Andy Stuart in leading the women’s team, with the rest of the coaching staff to be confirmed in due course.

A UEFA B licensed coach, Gareth has gained experienced with Seaton Carew over recent years while gaining his coaching badges.

He is no stranger to Hartlepool United, having been a scholar at the Club under Mick Smith between 1997 and 1999, playing with the likes of Jim Provett and Adam Boyd before heading into the Army.

Gareth is also the older brother of Evan Horwood, who played 138 games at the Prestige Group Stadium between 2010 and 2013.

“I’m really excited,” Gareth said on his appointment.

“I spoke to Andy a few weeks ago and took training last week – it’s a young squad with some exciting potential so I’m looking forward to it.

“Graham Clark [youth team coach] mentored me throughout my coaching badges and first contacted me about the role last month.

“I was really happy to take the opportunity on and I can’t wait for the upcoming games.”

Having not played since November due to postponements, Pools Women hope to open the New Year this Sunday with a league fixture away to Washington.
