Club legend Brian Honour appointed Matchday Ambassador

Hartlepool United is delighted to announce that Club legend Brian Honour has been appointed Matchday Ambassador ahead of the 2026/27 season.

One of the most respected and recognisable figures in the Club’s history, Honour will play a key role in the matchday experience at Victoria Park throughout the season.

Hosting hospitality across all home fixtures, he will welcome supporters and guests, conduct Q&A sessions with players and special guests and share stories and memories from a lifetime associated with Pools.

A four-time Supporters’ Player of the Year and later voted the Club’s Player of the 1980s, Honour made 384 appearances for Pools between 1985 and 1994 and was a key member of Cyril Knowles’ promotion-winning side of 1990/91.

More than three decades after his final appearance, he remains one of the most admired and respected figures ever to represent the Club.

His association with Pools has continued long beyond his playing career through ambassadorial work, hospitality hosting, media appearances and the success of the Brian Honour Soccer School.

His passion for the Club and its supporters remains as strong as ever, making him the ideal person to welcome guests to Victoria Park throughout the 2026/27 season.

The appointment reflects the Club’s ongoing commitment to celebrating the people who have helped shape Pools while continuing to enhance the experience provided to supporters, sponsors and hospitality guests on matchdays.

Rose Stoker, Commercial & Operations Director at Hartlepool United, said: “Brian Honour is one of the most important figures in the history of Pools and we are absolutely delighted that he will be taking on this role.

“Few individuals have a stronger connection to Hartlepool United than Brian. For generations of supporters, he has represented everything that people admire in a Pools player in terms of loyalty, humility, hard work and a deep pride in representing the Club.

“This appointment is a reflection of our commitment to celebrating the people who have helped shape Hartlepool United while continuing to enhance the experience we provide on matchdays.

“We are always looking at ways to enhance the experience we provide for our supporters, sponsors and hospitality guests, and having someone of Brian’s stature at the heart of that experience is a fantastic addition. His stories, his passion for Pools and his connection with supporters will make him a huge asset to our matchday offering.

“Brian remains one of the most loved and respected figures associated with the Club and we are incredibly proud that he will continue to play such an important role in representing Pools on matchdays.”

Brian Honour said: “Pools has been part of my life for more than 40 years, so I’m incredibly proud to take on this role.

“My association with Pools actually goes back long before I signed for the Club in 1985. My brother played for Pools and that’s when the bug first bit. I’ve been a supporter ever since and I still am today.

“This football club means a huge amount to me. I was fortunate enough to spend some of the best years of my career here, play alongside some fantastic teammates and experience moments that will stay with me forever.

“The supporters have always been at the heart of Pools and I have never forgotten the backing they gave me throughout my playing days. Their passion for this football club is what makes it such a special place.

“I’m looking forward to welcoming guests to Victoria Park throughout the season, sharing some memories and hopefully giving people an insight into what it means to represent Pools.

“It also feels a little bittersweet given the recent passing of Alan Murray. Alan was a fantastic man and played a huge role in some of the most memorable years of my career, including our promotion-winning season in 1990/91. He will always hold a special place in my heart and my thoughts are with his family at this difficult time.

“This Club has given me so many wonderful memories and friendships over the years and I’m incredibly proud to still be part of it.”

With Brian Honour set to play a central role in the Club’s hospitality experience throughout the 2026/27 season, supporters and businesses interested in learning more about available packages can contact the Club’s commercial team at commercial@hartlepoolunited.co.uk.
