Hartlepool United and University Hospitals Tees join forces to teach lifesaving CPR skills

Hartlepool United Football Club and University Hospital Tees are joining forces this Restart a Heart Day to help more people across the town gain the confidence to perform CPR and potentially save a life.

Supporters attending Hartlepool United on Monday 19th October will have the opportunity to meet experts from the trust’s Health and Social Care Academy, learn simple CPR techniques and find out what to do in the event of a cardiac arrest.

Restart a Heart Day is a national campaign designed to increase awareness of CPR and equip more people with the confidence to act in an emergency.

Teresa Pounder, University Hospitals Tees’ education and training partner, said: “Hartlepool United is a real focal point for our town, bringing people together week in, week out, and that’s why it’s the perfect place to help raise awareness of Restart a Heart Day.

“As a person who has administered CPR to a member of my close family, I can attest that you never know when you may need these skills. By working together as a community, we can help ensure more people have the confidence to act in an emergency and potentially save a life.”

Teresa Pounder NHS with Keith Nobbs demonstrate CPR with United For The Community Women’s Group.

The informal Drop-In session will take place at Hartlepool United Football Club on Monday 19th October, between 10.00am and 1.00pm in the Hart Of Our Club 1908 Lounge.

Two free match tickets for HUFC v Hornchurch 24th October will be available for those who attend the session.

The collaboration forms part of the Health and Social Care Academy’s and Hartlepool’ United’s commitment to working alongside local organisations and communities to share practical health knowledge and skills.

No previous experience is needed, and there is no formal classroom teaching. Whether you stay for five minutes or longer, come along, meet H’Angus the monkey, have a go at CPR and learn a skill that could help save a life.

Keith Nobbs, Manager of United For The Community, said: “A cardiac emergency can happen to anyone, anywhere and at any time and at United for the Community, we ensure that no one has to face that moment alone.

“By joining the Restart a Heart campaign, we are equipping our neighbours, families, and friends with the simple, life-saving CPR skills needed to protect one another. When we learn together, we save lives together.”
