Academy Roundup

Both our SYT’s fixtures were postponed last week while our U16s and U17s suffered defeat.

Here’s everything you need to know…

U17s

Our U17s fell to a 4-2 defeat on the road to Oldham Athletic this week in the National League. It marked the end of a two-game unbeaten streak for Gary Liddle’s side.

Goals from Alfie Swift and Jackson Raitt gave Pools an early lead in the first half. However, our U17s were outmatched by a strong Oldham side after the break, despite Pools best efforts on the day.

The loss saw our U17s stay sixth in the league, six points of top.

Manager Gary Liddle: “After a great start to the game we didn’t quite keep that momentum going and conceded some sloppy goals along with some great goals on Oldham’s part.

“A disappointing day where past levels weren’t maintained.”

U16s

A difficult afternoon saw our U16s defeated 7-1 at home to Goole AFC in the JPL Premier League.

Despite victory over the league leaders last time out, our U16s couldn’t match a strong Goole side on the day.

Indie Coates grabbed the constellation goal for Pools.

The loss saw Damian Shanahan’s side fall to seventh in the league, 12 points off top.

Manager Damian Shanahan: “From the high of beating top of the league, I was expecting us to kick on the following game.

“With our brand-new side, it was a harsh lesson that nothing is given, and you must earn it.

“Even though it was a heavy defeat, the players will take a lot from it, as they are confident and competitive group of lads that will look to bounce back stronger.”
