Hartlepool United shared the spoils with Morecambe in the Enterprise National League after a 1-1 draw at the Prestige Group Stadium.
An early goal from Adam Campbell was cancelled out by Admiral Muskwe’s converted penalty at the start of the second period, seeing the sides claim a point apiece.
Nicky Featherstone made two changes to the side that came out 2-0 winners at home to Solihull Moors, as Matty Daly and Danny Johnson replaced the injured Luke Charman and Vadaine Oliver in the starting 11.
It was a lightning start from Pools, with Jermaine Francis pinching the ball deep into Morecambe’s half three minutes in – allowing Campbell to lob over Jamal Blackman into an empty Morecambe net.
Two chances fell the way of the goal scorer shortly after – On seven minutes, Campbell noticed Blackman off his line and tried his luck from distance, troubling the Morecambe goalkeeper.
A minute later, Daly cut back to Campbell in the visitors’ box, whose effort just evaded the top-right corner.
As the half progressed, the Shrimps grew into the game and nearly found an equaliser in the 28th minute. George Evans brilliantly got a fingertip to Elijah Dixon-Bonner’s low strike, redirecting the ball onto the right post.
Five minutes into the second period, Morecambe levelled. After being brought down by Cameron John in the box, Muskwe stepped up to take the penalty and clinically slotted into the bottom left corner.
Just past the hour mark, Pools almost regained the lead when Daly’s fizzing strike from the edge of the box deflected narrowly wide of the left corner.
On 67 minutes, though, the away side threatened once more. Ben Tollitt latched onto Miguel Azeez’s defence-splitting pass and burst into the Hartlepool box, curling his effort inches outside the right post.
In injury time, Pools had a huge chance to snatch all three points. Campbell played the ball inside to Alex Reid, who, after a neat piece of skill, saw his low shot saved by Blackman one-on-one.
On the rebound, Nathan Sheron was denied by a Morecambe clearance, keeping the game level.
