Simon Grayson reflects on Rangers XI test

Hartlepool United manager Simon Grayson reacts to his first game in front of a home crowd as a last-gasp winner was the difference for his side against a Rangers XI.

The young Rangers team took a 2-0 lead before Danny Johnson grabbed a goal for Pools to make it 2-1 going into the break, before Adam Campbell and Alex Reid completed the turnaround in the second half.

The Pools boss said:

“It was a really good challenging test for us.

“Full credit to Rangers, we expected them to have some good technicians, handle the ball really well, and some really good individuals that caused us a lot of problems.

“We didn’t start the game like we should do or want to do, but sometimes you have to give the opposition credit for that.”

Grayson continued to express the importance of his side showing a fight to come back from behind.

“To be 2-0 down and then come back shows a mentality that we’re going to need throughout the course of this season.

Despite their young age, Grayson gave a lot of credit to the opposition.

“You can look at this Rangers team and compare them to a York or a Rochdale, Gateshead that play really high-risk football and handle the ball in good areas, so that will be part of it.”
