Featherstone celebrates a decade at Pools

Pools stalwart Nicky Featherstone is celebrating 10 years in the blue and white, having first arrived at the Prestige Group Stadium on 31 October 2014.

The former Hull City youngster joined Pools on an initial short-term deal from Harrogate Town under Paul Murray. The following day, on November 1, he made his debut in a 2-2 draw with Newport County.

Featherstone played 27 games for the remainder of that season as Ronnie Moore inspired Pools to escape relegation from the Football League, despite at one stage being 10 points adrift.

Featherstone would go onto became a stalwart in the Pools side, playing an average 43 games for the nine seasons that followed.

Most notably, the 36-year-old played a key role in the Hartlepool team that gained promotion back to the Football League through the play-offs in 2021.

This season, Featherstone has played 16 games so far, while also joining the coaching team in a dual role.

He currently sits fourth in the Club’s all time appearance list, with 432 games to his name.

“When I first signed a one-month contract, there was no way I could think it’d pan out like it has,” he stated.

“It’s a massively proud achievement for myself and my family – it’s probably something I’ll look back on more when I’ve finished playing.

“I just want success, I want this club back in the Football League. That’s where it belongs, this is a Football League club. That’s the ultimate goal for me.”
