Pools exit the FA Youth Cup

Hartlepool United Academy dropped out of the FA Youth Cup in the second qualifying round on Wednesday night following a tough defeat to Blyth Spartans.

Pools were three goals down at the break, before another two Blyth goals in the second half meant the hosts exited the competition.

Academy Manager, Ian McGuckin, provided an honest assessment at the full time whistle.

“The lads know they’re better than that,” he stated.

“It’s a frustrating result because we were nowhere near our usual levels. Blyth were the better team on the night and we wish them the best of luck for the rest of the season.

“It’s disappointing to be knocked out of the competition but we have to put our full focus onto the league and Youth Alliance Cup now.

“We suffered a few more injuries unfortunately but we’ve got a while to prepare until we’re back in action against Salford on October 12.”
